Tips for an accessible ride
Do you use a wheelchair or do you have a visual impairment? We’ve collected together some tips.
You no longer have to book in advance to make a trip with a wheelchair on the bus or tram
Check the accessibility status of the stops where you will be getting on and off on the De Lijn website or app.
You should get on at the second wheelchair-accessible door.
The driver will put out the ramp at your request if necessary. This may also be done by your companion or a fellow-passenger.
You may enter the vehicle on your own or with the help of a companion.
It is important for your wheelchair to remain stable during the journey. You should therefore always use the wheelchair space provided and position yourself with your back against the panel.
In order to travel safely on the bus or tram, there are a number of conditions that your wheelchair must meet:
max. 130 cm long
max. 80 cm wide
max. 300 kg in weight (including user)

Recommendations for passengers with a visual impairment
Position yourself at the front of the platform where you can be easily seen.
A well-equipped stop will have a climb-aboard area made of rubber tiles.
For your information, the Flemish government’s Accessibility Master Plan focuses on improving tactile guidance at stops.
The driver will be happy to tell you the vehicle’s line and destination.
If the vehicle does not have an audible stop announcement, ask the driver to tell you when the vehicle reaches your destination stop or transfer point.
Tip: activate a planned route with the De Lijn app. This will guide you from departure to arrival. You will be notified when the vehicle is arriving at the stop and when you need to get off. As a passenger with a visual impairment, for practical reasons you can also get off at the first (or front) door of the bus .
